Karanja: a precious plant for a healthy garden

CP Jardin karanja cake is a plant-based organic fertilizer made from the seeds of karanja (*Pongamia glabra*), a tree grown through sustainable agriculture in India. After the oil is extracted, the seeds are ground to produce this nutrient-rich cake, naturally active in stimulating plant growth while strengthening their natural defenses.

But that’s not all: karanja cake is also known for its repellent properties against many soil pests (nematodes, aphids, caterpillars…). It is therefore a fertilizer and a protector, 100% natural, that works gently and progressively without upsetting the soil ecosystem.

Why choose CP Jardin karanja cake?

✔ Feeds plants with assimilable organic elements

✔ Stimulates microbial activity in the soil

✔ Naturally protects against certain pests and diseases

✔ Improves vigor and overall crop resistance

✔ Long-lasting action, with no risk of burning or leaching

Ideal for which crops?

  • 🌱 Sowing, young plants, and sensitive plantings
  • 🥬 Vegetable garden: leafy vegetables, root vegetables, tomatoes, strawberry plants

Karanja Cake vs Neem Cake 🌿

Characteristic 🌱 Karanja 🌿 Neem
Origin Seeds of the Pongamia glabra tree Seeds of the Azadirachta indica tree
Fertilizing action Yes – rich in organic matter, stimulates growth Yes – enriches the soil and improves structure
Repellent action Yes – nematodes, aphids, soil insects Yes – recognized natural insecticidal effect (azadirachtin)
Anti-pest strength Moderate to strong (good root repellent) Very strong (systemic effect on certain pests)
Use Sensitive plants, vegetable garden, young plants, bamboo Crops sensitive to pests, crop rotations
Smell Light, more discreet than neem Strong, earthy or even slightly spicy
Complementarity Can be used alone or alternated with neem Can be combined with karanja for enhanced action

🛡️ Repellent benefits of karanja cake: how to use it effectively?

Karanja cake creates an environment unfavorable to the development of many soil pests such as:

  • Nematodes
  • Root aphids
  • White grubs, wireworms, soil caterpillars
  • Seed flies, flea beetles, psyllids…

It does not kill directly, but acts as a natural repellent by releasing volatile substances that disrupt their presence around the roots.

🌿 3 effective application methods

🔸 Incorporation into the soil (preventive)

When: before sowing or planting

How:

  • Spread 100 to 160 g/m²
  • Lightly rake to incorporate into the soil
  • Water to activate the diffusion of the compounds

Repeat every 2 months in spring or summer.

🔸 Mixing into potting mix or root dipping (planting)

When: during repotting or planting bare-root plants

How:

  • Mix 5 to 10% cake into the potting mix
  • Or add it to the slurry used to dip the roots

🔸 Repellent ring around plants

When: for plants already in place

How:

  • Place 20 to 30 g of cake around the base
  • On the surface or slightly buried to create an olfactory barrier

Tip: for enhanced action, combine karanja cake with neem cake.
