Owlet moth

The term “noctuelle” refers to several species of nocturnal moths belonging to the family Noctuidae. These night moths can cause problems in agricultural crops, because their larvae, called noctuid caterpillars, often feed on plant leaves. Among the noctuelles, there are species such as the cabbage moth (Plutella xylostella) that attacks crucifers, and the tomato moth (Helicoverpa armigera) that targets tomato crops and other plants. Managing noctuelle populations may involve the use of various methods. Farmers can use cultural practices, such as crop rotation, to disrupt the insects’ life cycle. Specific insecticides can also be used, but this requires judicious use to minimize environmental impacts. Biological control methods, such as introducing natural enemies like parasitoids, can also be effective in controlling noctuelle populations in a more sustainable way. Regular monitoring of crops to detect signs of infestation and taking preventive measures help mitigate the damage caused by these insects.
