The wireworm, also called “wireworm,” is a soil pest that attacks several crops: potatoes, root vegetables, lettuces, and even strawberry plants. The larva measures 0.5 to 2 cm long; it is yellow in color and easily recognizable. The adult, on the other hand, is a beetle that is black or yellow (depending on the species) and can reach 2 cm.
Wireworm damage in the garden: wireworm larvae move through the soil (sometimes up to 60 cm). They feed on the roots of the plants mentioned above. They emerge in spring as adults.
To fight wireworms, there are nematodes against wireworms, bracken fern manure, and the installation of a pheromone trap and pheromones for wireworms.
