The pine processionary pheromone works by mimicking the chemical signals that the female pine processionary caterpillar naturally emits to attract males during the breeding season.

How to use the pheromone against the pine processionary moth?

Using gloves, place the long-lasting pheromone in a pheromone trap of your choice. Then place 1 trap per pine (at around 2m high), or 4 to 8 traps per hectare (for monitoring).

The pheromone has a 6-month lifespan, which covers the entire flight period. Clean your trap regularly to prevent moth build-up.

What is the pine processionary (or Thaumetopoea pityocampa)

The pine processionary caterpillar is a small insect that comes from nocturnal moths. These caterpillars are best known for moving in single file, forming processions as they travel.

They mainly attack pine trees and feed on the needles of these trees. The caterpillar’s hairs can cause health problems in humans and pets, triggering irritation of the skin, eyes, and respiratory tract.

It is important to take measures to control these caterpillars, as they can seriously damage trees and pose health risks.
