Pheromone dispenser for Platynota stultan

Platynota stultan is a moth whose caterpillars mainly attack fruit crops (apple trees, pear trees) and ornamental plants (roses, hedges). Damage appears as tunnels in fruits and young shoots, leading to yield losses and weakening of plants.

Pest cycle and emergence

  • Main flight: from June to August, with a peak in July
  • Eggs laid on leaves and fruits
  • Active caterpillars can feed for 3 to 4 weeks
  • Pupation at the end of the season, then overwintering of the next generation

Why use this pheromone dispenser?

  • Disrupts male mate-finding
  • Reduces egg-laying and caterpillar density
  • No risk to beneficial insects and bees
  • Fits into integrated pest management (IPM) programs

Technical specifications

  • Effective duration: 40 days in the field
  • Ready-to-use format, no assembly required
  • Constant, even release of pheromones
  • Single-unit packaging, easy to store

Installation and trapping

  • Trap type: delta trap or hanging funnel trap
  • Position: hang at 1.5–2 m high, at the edge of the orchard or under the foliage
  • Spacing: 1 dispenser every 10–15 m depending on planting density
  • Installation period: early June, before the flight peak
  • Monitoring: inspect the trap weekly and record catches

Practical tips

  • Replace the dispenser after 40 days or after heavy rain
  • Combine with visual monitoring of caterpillars on foliage
  • Supplement with insect-proof nets for strong protection
  • Store unused dispensers away from heat and light
