An innovation and outstanding effectiveness against the box tree moth

Born from Biotop’s research and development, this innovative product has been tested and approved by châteaux and specialists in the field. Today, with effectiveness exceeding 90% in the best trials, this new product is a very important advance in the fight against the box tree moth.

Trichogramma

Trichogramma are micro-hymenopterans (< 1 mm) that are egg parasitoids. The female lays her eggs inside those of the pest, which destroys them and prevents the caterpillars from hatching. Certain Trichogramma species attack the eggs of the box tree moth (Cydalima perspectalis), the butterfly responsible for the destruction of boxwood.

Product benefits

  • Easy to set up
  • Compatible with Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) (see box tree moth treatment Solabiol)
  • No risk for users
  • Does not lead to resistance
  • Active from the first flight of the butterfly
  • Effective in both sun and shade

How it works

After emergence and leaving the dispensers, adult trichogramma parasitize box tree moth eggs Other trichogramma will then emerge from these eggs and can in turn parasitize new moth eggs. In this way, TRICHOTOP® BUXUS eliminates the pest before the first damage occurs!

Directions for use

Packaged in dispensers, the trichogramma are protected from bad weather and insects. Simply hang the dispenser in the middle of the boxwood to optimize the action of the trichogramma. In its dense foliage, the boxwood will not reveal your dispenser. Installation in boxwood should be planned from the beginning of the pest’s flight (before damage appears).

Fragile product: delivery within 48 hours, to be used upon receipt (does not keep).

Dosage

  • 1 dispenser / 5 linear meters or 10 m2 / or 1–2 dispensers per topiary
  • 1 dispenser = 5000 trichogramma / Duration of one application = 2 weeks

To further improve box tree moth control

  • Presence of caterpillars: treatment with Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) (see box tree moth treatment Solabiol).
  • Presence of adults (butterfly: use a pheromone trap for butterflies)
