Protect your fruit trees with kairomones 🛡️

Kairomones are natural volatile substances emitted by plants or animals, and recognized by pest insects. Unlike sex pheromones, they attract both males and females. They make it possible to target pests very precisely by mimicking the smell of their favorite host plant.

Our kairomones against codling moth are used with a Delta trap to effectively capture this destructive moth in orchards.

Codling moth of apple, pear and walnut 🍏

The codling moth (Cydia pomonella) is a nocturnal moth whose larva burrows into the inside of the fruit (apples, pears, walnuts), making them inedible or causing premature drop. This pest can cause significant losses in orchards.

Life cycle and egg-laying periods 📅

The codling moth has several generations per year, depending on the region:

  • 1st generation: from May to late June — egg-laying on leaves, flowers and young stems.
  • 2nd generation: from July to mid-August — egg-laying on healthy fruit. The larva burrows down to the seeds.
  • 3rd generation (warm areas): possible from late August to September. The larva then overwinters in a cocoon underground or in bark, then pupates the following spring.

How to use kairomones

The capsules are packaged in airtight sachets to guarantee freshness. They activate as soon as the sachet is opened.

  • Do not touch the capsule with your fingers — pour directly into the Delta trap.
  • 1 capsule per trap. Do not mix with other pheromones.
  • Duration of action: 4 to 6 weeks.
  • Period of use: from April to August, after flowering.
  • Recommended density: 1 to 2 traps per tree, at human height, in an open location.
  • Storage: up to 5 years in the freezer.

Tip: set the traps up ahead of flights to prevent damage and harvest healthy fruit, without chemical treatment 🍎🌿
