Great tit nest box Ø32 mm – made in Europe

Offer a reliable, long-lasting shelter to garden birds with this sturdy, attractive nest box, specially designed for the great tit. Made in Europe from pine from sustainably managed forests, it is built to withstand several years thanks to an eco-friendly water-based stain that protects the wood while remaining wildlife-friendly.

  • Made in Europe
  • 15 mm thick wood (pine from sustainably managed forests): better insulation & longevity
  • Eco-friendly water-based stain: optimal protection for several years
  • Front opening with locking hook: simple and secure maintenance
  • Rear mounting bracket: easy installation on a tree or wall
  • Entrance hole Ø32 mm: suitable for the great tit (also welcomes other species)

Why install a nest box for the great tit?

Installing a nest box in your garden is doubly useful: you provide a nesting site for a species that may lack natural cavities, and at the same time you encourage a valuable helper. The great tit is a champion insect hunter: it visits flowerbeds, hedges, and trees from morning to night, and helps naturally limit certain insect populations in the garden.

The Ø32 mm entrance diameter is designed to make access easier for the great tit while limiting intrusions by larger species. The result: a more “selective” shelter, more reassuring for the bird, and generally better occupied.

In line with biological control

Insectivorous, the great tit feeds in particular on larvae, caterpillars, and small insects. During the breeding period, activity is intense: adults make many trips back and forth to feed the chicks, and look for food as close to the nest as possible. Installing a nest box therefore encourages a more regular presence in your area, and promotes natural predation at the time when it is most useful.

Installing a nest box for the great tit

To maximize the chances of occupancy, place the nest box in a quiet spot, away from frequent traffic. Ideally, choose a south-east orientation (or, more broadly, an area sheltered from prevailing winds), to avoid driving rain and drafts.

  • Installation height: between 1.5 m and 2 m
  • Support: tree (via the rear bracket) or wall/facade (very effective if the spot is quiet)
  • Stability: fasten firmly so the nest box doesn’t move (no “swaying” in the wind)
  • Orientation: south-east recommended, or a location protected from wind and overly direct sun

Tip Maluttebio: avoid placing the nest box right above a very busy area (door, terrace, dog’s path), and choose a spot where birds can perch easily (branch, hedge, tree nearby).

Placement and maintenance

A well-maintained nest box is a nest box that lasts… and stays healthy for its occupants. Thanks to its front opening with a locking hook, cleaning is quick.

  • Cleaning: once a year, ideally in autumn (after the nesting season)
  • How to: remove the old nest, dry-brush, and let it air out well
  • To avoid: insecticides, harsh products, or scented products inside

By removing the old nest, you free up space for the next season and reduce the presence of parasites that can settle in from one year to the next.
